Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

When did Treasures 4 Teachers open?

After two years of planning, Treasures 4 Teachers received our federal non-profit 501 (c) (3) certification in June 2004.

What types of products do you offer?

Our two locations will supply teachers with a wide array of products. Inventory will change, but we will always offer basic school supplies such as notebook paper, binders, spiral notebooks, pencils, pens, erasers, scissors, crayons, glue, construction paper, copy paper, and tape. We often have art supplies, file folders, student incentives, staplers, stamp pads, calendars, carpet squares, magazines, books, and hole punches as well, so call us and ask about the items you need.

How do you stock your resource center?

Hundreds of businesses and individuals donate new and gently used products for our store. Monetary donations come from individuals, businesses, and foundations. An army of volunteers is ready to help teachers shop, stock store shelves, and perform a myriad of operational activities.

Who is eligible to shop at Treasures 4 Teachers ?

Please view our eligibility guidelines.

Can businesses claim a tax deduction when they donate?

In most cases, a business can claim donations as charitable contributions, but each company should rely on the advice of its tax advisor. View the Donations page.

What items are most needed?

Teachers always need basic school supplies such as pencils, pens, markers, crayons, glue, scissors, and notebook filler paper. Teachers are very creative and use products that you might never imagine in a classroom. Check our Wish List for specifics.

Are there any items Treasures 4 Teachers does not accept?

Yes. Donated materials must be free of contaminants (such as food, oil, solvents, paints, or bio-hazard). Also, items should generally be considered safe for most children, so certain sharp items and flammable materials are not accepted. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us for details.

Does Treasures 4 Teachers provide a pick-up service for donations?

We have a limited ability to pick up donations, so it is very helpful when donors arrange for delivery or drop off contributions at our stores.

How is Treasures 4 Teachers funded?

We are funded through generous donations from the community including corporations, businesses, foundations, and individuals. Our modest membership and service fees help to cover our basic operating costs and ensure that Treasures 4 Teachers will continue its mission to provide these resources to the community.

Are there any limits for shoppers?

Yes. Many items are limited to ensure that merchandise is fairly distributed to all members and their students. Those items are clearly marked with the maximum quantities allowed.

What is the average value of merchandise from one shopping trip?

Other Treasures 4 Teacher affiliates who have been open for a period of time report that on average, teachers took $274 worth of supplies back to their classroom from each shopping trip they made.

Can students volunteer at Treasures 4 Teachers for community service hours?

Yes. Students are encouraged to fulfill their community service hours at Treasures 4 Teachers. For more information about volunteering, view the Volunteer page.

Are there any other programs like Treasures 4 Teachers around the country?

Yes. We are affiliated with other similar resource centers through a national network of teachers resources. Check out Partners for more information.
